Aphrodite established herself as an oil painter in the Virgin Islands from 1996.
Living in the U.S.V.I. and nature’s surroundings were what inspired her to use bold tropical colors in most everything she paints now.
As a New England native, she developed her skills under New York’s N.A. Master artist Daniel E. Green, Boston’s Copley Master artist Mark Hayden, and Oscar Durand in N.H. At one point, she painted renowned sports figures and has 5 of her original oil paintings in the New England Sports Museum, Boston, MA.
A trip to the tropics took her vision and palette in a new direction which is what she enjoys, and continues using today.
The Aphrodite ‘Agape’ numbered series was inspired as a result of a medical crisis Aphrodite experienced in recent years. These pieces are all themed with soothing and bright tropical colors and the sense of water from the resin finish overlay used on each numbered piece. They are all a mixture derived from where she calls ‘home’. These places are New Hampshire, the Virgin Islands, and now, Mount Dora.
Here at Artisans on fifth in Mount Dora, are some of her most recent creations.
