When I was a young girl a seed was planted and grew into a world of continuous creating. I was the youngest of four girls and have wonderful memories of my mother gathering us at the table for a day of crafts. I loved being able to use beads, pieces of felt, sequins, yarn and other items to make something that gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment. The items were normally given to people less fortunate. That instilled in me the passion for art and the joy of giving. Thanks to my wonderful husband I have been able to retire and realize my dream of volunteering and creativity.
Throughout the years I have explored many types of art: oil painting, pottery, art quilting and kiln formed glass, which is my current passion. I began glass fusing while living in Hawaii in 2013. Each of my pieces is original, I never use decals or purchased pieces to incorporate into my work. My creations are a variety of individual glass elements in addition to glass powders and small pieces of glass called “frit” incorporated into my final work of art. . Every piece is fired individually before adding to the final piece. They then are fused in a glass kiln anywhere from 12 hours up to a couple days for some of my thicker pieces.
Never being satisfied with just the basics, I have taken several classes and learned many techniques that I combine in my pieces. The majority of my work is nature based using photographs I have taken while traveling, snorkeling, kayaking and hiking and then recreated in glass. I also enjoy visiting botanical gardens and aquariums and taking photographs for inspiration.
I invite you to enjoy my original art pieces as much as I enjoy making them.
